Group Info

A group for Thrive-games art, artists and fans.

Anyone feel free to join the Development team at thrivegame.forum-free.ca/home
We appreciate any modellers, composer, programmers and 2D artists who can help in making this game.

THRIVE is an open source game which aims to simulate the entire universe - your way. From the lowly tide pools of your home planet, you will evolve a creature to triumph against your adversaries, gain sentience and blast off to explore distant worlds. The eventual game will include a wide variety of features, such as population dynamics; a procedural evolution system which automatically evolves AI creatures and allows you to directly edit your own organism, designing not only their look but behaviour and internal organ structures as well; a sandbox mode in which you can edit absolutely everything, unlocked after the space stage; a tech editor to design and test your own tech objects; advanced systems for economics implementing a compound resource tool; and much, much more.

Hello! I have been following you guys for a while and I must say the progress looks amazing!
I would LOVE to be able to contribute with art, designs and just general visuals. Maybe even some biology stuff, as I'm going to a gymnasium next year that focuses on biology.
I've mainly taken note of the background to the single cell stage (oddly specific, I know, but what can you do lol) and I'd like to give some suggestions on how to improve visuals. Hopefully this won't be something you peoples have heard millions of times over and over. Anyhooters, here comes.

Perhaps you can take notes from microscope pictures? Make the light blue background darker, add algae and such. Pics for reference: il9.picdn.net/shutterstock/vid… i.ytimg.com/vi/2VljTyMX_XA/hqd…
i.ytimg.com/vi/UsUSqlHFdOw/hqd…
Diatoms would perhaps be useful for creation of atmosphere, just having some floating around and waiting to be eaten by the player's cell or something like that. www.victorianmicroscopeslides.… upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…
It'd also be interesting if there would be viruses randomly attacking, altering, just generally tweaking with and maybe adding/removing potential DNA points from the cell. There's theories about viruses being the very cause and spark of evolution.
Perhaps you could even add some form of subtle light refraction effect on your cell models, similar to what is seen on this paramecium: wps.pearsoned.ca/wps/media/obj…
Maybe even subtle pigmentation options/customization and light play? Similar to what's seen in this rotifer: orig08.deviantart.net/cd94/f/2…
Just some nonsense from me. I apologize for long post and I understand if you guys don't have time with my bullshit. I just sorta had to blurt this out.

I would love to help give ideas. Ever since I've heard of Thrive a couple years ago I've been so excited to make the change from Spore to this. I'm glad you guys are still functioning.

And now I wish to speed up development process a bit. While I'll be learning some IT to learn how to code in school this year, I would like to toss in concept art here.
...Maybe even create 3D models of creatures shown in the concept art here to help grab more attention?

We would love if you wanted to help with coding once you learn it or 3D modelling.
revolutionarygamesstudio.com/g…
The game is currently written in C++, and scripting is done in Lua (using Luabind).
If you haven't done 3D modelling before, I could recommend Blender as free professional 3D program. There are also many good tutorials for learning Blender (and 3D modelling in other programs) that you can find on Youtube and other places online for free (as well as paid tutorials).

And apologies for the late reply.

Sure go ahead. Plant life will also be made in the Organim Editor, just like animals in the current plan BTW.

Will this game have a creature stage like spore? So on land and you can fly and make friends and kill things? Also will there be big creatures like epics and little creatures?

And another question, can you play with another person? :D

Sort off yes. You will also be able to live under-water.
The stages are to be Microbe, Multicellular, Aware, Awakening, Society, Industrial, and at last the space stage. Multicellular through Awakening are sort off like the creature stages.
There will also be creatures of varying sizes, yes, albeit the won't be the specific "epic" prefix for giant version creatures.

Currently there are no plans for real multiplayer. Although that might be changed in the future, or added as a mod, since the game is going to be highly mod-able.

~Cheers

To be honest whenever I think about Thrive in general I mainly get super-excited it. And if you guys ever need an extra concept artist (or artist in general) I'm available.

Do you know when the work on the first multicellular stages will start? What engine are you using to create this game? How will you make the creature editors? Is there room for another concept artist?

1. maybe within 1-2 years at current speed.
2. Ogre 3D www.ogre3d.org/
3. Do you mean technically or mechanically? If second, here's the current plan: thrivegame.wikidot.com/organis…
4. Yes! I am a dummy! We'd love to have you on the team, if that what you mean.

Hope that answers your questions, and just ask if there's something else.
